Boating, Fishing and Diving
Fishing, boating and diving have always been favourite activities of Pauanui residents and visitors. Easy access to the Pacific Ocean and offshore islands gives Pauanui an enviable number of destinations. Public boat ramps at Royal Billy Point and Pleasant Place give boaties easy access to Tairua Harbour and the ocean. The development of the Waterways also gives residents the opportunity to park their boats alongside their houses with deep water channel access to the harbour.
Golf
Pauanui has three fantastic golf courses to choose from, two are located in the heart of Pauanui and the third is located nearby on the Hikuai Settlement Road as you drive into Pauanui.

The Pines is a challenging nine hole course situated amongst the pine trees adjacent to the Pauanui airstrip. Green fees are payable at the ProShop at The Pauanui Sports and Recreation Club, (Map Ref G-4). The Lakes is another nine hole course situated beside stage one of the Waterways on The Dividend, (Map Ref H-5). Memberships for the Pines and the Lakes courses are available from the Club.

Lakes Resort is a stunning eighteen hole international golf course. Situated just outside of Pauanui. Lakes Resort is a premier golfing resort and residential community.

Tennis
Sixteen tennis courts are situated across Pauanui in four locations, Kennedy Park (Map Ref D2), Gallagher Park (Map Ref H3), Waterways Parade (Map Ref I-6) and Sheppard Ave (Map Ref F4). All courts are accessed by a token system. Tokens can be bought from the Club.

Cycling and Mountain Biking
If walking is one of the most popular pass times in Pauanui then cycling comes in as a close second. The compact size of Pauanui means that cycling is the perfect mode of transport as you can get anywhere in a matter of minutes. You really can arrive, park your car and not drive it again until its time to leave.
Water Sports
Pauanui can easily be described as a paradise for those who enjoy water sports. The ocean beach stretches for almost 3 kilometres and has a number of good surfing spots and is also great for swimming with the Pauanui Surf Club situated two-thirds along the beach.

Tairua Harbour is also popular for kayaking, sailing and windsurfing. Waterskiing and jet skiing is also popular with dedicated lanes situated just south of the Pleasant Place boat ramp.
Walking
Pauanui really is a walkers paradise. The original design ensured a generous allowance of walkways were incorporated throughout Pauanui making it possible to walk almost anywhere with minimum need to use the roads.

For the adventurous there are more strenuous walks including the Mount Pauanui Summit Walk (Map Ref 1-J) and the Tangitarori Wetlands Walk (Map Ref H-7).

Flying, Pauanui Airfeild
The airfeild at Pauanui is only a thirty minute flight from Auckland and twenty minutes from Tauranga and Hamilton. For the past forty years residents and visitors have had the ability to fly in and literally park right beside their houses. As a result Pauanui has a developed a strong affinity for light aircraft and has a well supported and active flying club.

Kennedy Park
The Kennedy Park Recreational Reserve (Map Ref E-3) is home to an artificial cricket wicket, a fitness trail, and four tennis courts. A great place to fly kites or kick a ball around with the kids Kennedy Park also hosts some of the most popular events of the summer series programme including Kids Cricket, Touch Rugby, Miss Pauanui and the legendary Craft Fair.
Basket Ball
Located next to the skate park. Come down and shoot some hoops.
Skate Park
If you are into skating check out the awesome skate park at the Sheppard Ave end of the airfield.
Mini Putt
One of New Zealands original ‘Crazy Golf’ courses the Pauanui Mini Putt was established back in 1975. Regular upgrades have ensured the course has maintained its appeal and is as popular as ever as a family attraction.
Pauanui Sports Clubs
There are many active sports and recreation clubs in Pauanui including: Netball, Aerobics, Yogalates, Walking, Tramping, Bowling, Scottish Country Dancing, Tennis, Fishing and Golf.
